On the dissipative coupling of adjacent structures
Dissipative coupling may be inserted in adjacent structures to enhance the overall dy- namic behavior and to prevent the system from reaching unwanted vibration levels. The study aims to evidence the fundamental characteristics in the dissipative coupling of an oscillator pair. Purely viscous, Kelvin-Voigt and Maxwell rheological models are considered for the interconnection. Sen- sitivity analysis of the system eigenvalues to the significant dimensionless parameters permits to evidence the main dynamical features of the coupling. Optimal loci in the parameter space are de- termined. The effects of the optimal selections on the system transfer functions with respect to an imposed motion at the base, are discussed.
